UCT's English Department and Faculty of the Humanities, together with HUMA and Postamble present: The fourth annual postgraduate conference
24, 25 & 26 October 2012
First call for papers
Crosscurrents: current research in the Humanities seeks to create the opportunity for postgraduate students from UCT and other universities further afield, within the faculties of Humanities and Law, to present papers related to their research and to engage in dynamic interdisciplinary discussion and exchange of ideas with peers. The conference encourages both interdisciplinary dialogue and inter-university collaboration among students from across departments and universities.
The primary aim of Crosscurrents is to provide a space in which postgraduate students can present their work in progress. Abstracts are invited from all disciplines within the humanities and law faculties. As the conference is specifically interdisciplinary, papers should be carefully written for a disciplinarily diverse audience. Papers may address, but are not in any way confined to, the following general themes:
- Violence
- History and taboo
- Silence and translation
- Questions of the animal
- Displacement and identity
