I was an NRF post-doctoral fellow at Stellenbosch between 2011 and 2013. I received my PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2009 and spent a year at WISER, University of the Witwatersrand. With Achille Mbembe, I am currently co-editor of the Johannesburg Salon. My research focuses on questions of urbanisation, consumption and economies of affect in texts from South Africa and the global South. I am completing a manuscript on representations of the contemporary township, commissioned for publication by Wits University Press. A co-edited collection with Jacob Dlamini on new imagainries of race, Categories of Persons: Reframing Ourselves and Others, is to be published by Picador Africa in August 2013.
