Bongo Flepu is a 26 year old poet born in Eastern Cape, East London, in a township known Mdantsane, a father to a son, a founder member of a poetry group called Jembe Ridim Poetry. My mother planted a spoken word seed in me, unintentionally I believe with her poetic, honest, hypnotic taughtful stories she used to relate. Poetry is my savior, my reflection, a key that freed me mentally in the ghetto-dungeons – township as known. Listening to Hip-Hip/Rap and book reading irrigated that seed to a beautiful plant, which I flourished to be a poet in Western Cape, Stellenbosch. In a small township called Kayamandi, where I currently live, is where poetic spirit freed itself within me.
